Flight Attendant Strike Vote Ballots Mailed

As promised by the Association of Flight Attendants on March 8, a Strike Vote Ballet and an accompanying information packet was mailed to all United Airlines flight attendants today.  You should expect to receive yours in the next few days.

The strike vote ballet and the accompanying information discuss the current situation between UAL management and flight attendants regarding our contract's  scope clause as it pertains to the possible US Airways merger.  Needless to say, this is very serious business indeed.  According to the AFA information packet, the Master Executive Council recommends a 'FOR' vote on the strike ballot.  The votes will be counted on April 2, 2001 so you must return yours before then, otherwise it won't be counted.

Many people have asked to know our opinion on this matter, i.e., whether Jumpseatnews is 'FOR' or 'AGAINST' a strike action.  Since day one, it has been the intention of this website to promote individual flight attendant self-reliance and independence---as well as encourage all flight attendants to take an active interest in the direction of their careers.

Therefore, we are not going to recommend a specific vote in either direction.  It is up to each one of you to consider the information presented and make a careful decision based on your own intelligence and perspective.

However, we are definitely going to make one specific request:

Everyone, please do vote.

There is absolutely no excuse not to make your decision and vote count.  Invest a portion of your time to review the accompanying information and complete a ballot.  No excuses okay?  Make sure the ballot is completed properly (i.e., the ballot envelope is placed in the pre-addressed transmittal envelope, etc...) and submitted by the deadline.  Good luck!
