This morning I must sadly and angrily report to you that one of our own flight attendants was raped while at the LAX layover hotel, the Westin Bonaventure.
Please do two things immediately:

  1. Read the following AFA Release.
  2. Go visit Layover Safety and Security and review our posted safety tips.

A Very Important Message to All United Flight Attendants

Saturday morning one of our flying partners on a layover was assaulted and raped at the Westin Bonaventure in Los Angeles. AFA has taken the following actions in response to this incident:

•MEC Hotel and Transportation Chairperson was in touch with Ed Tolle, manager of WHQBQ during the weekend to find out what measures were being instituted by the hotel to guarantee the safety of any flight attendants staying at the hotel.

•AFA EAP has been in contact with all flight attendants who were impacted by this terrible incident.

•United management has distributed a Security Alert to all flight attendants laying over at the Westin Bonaventure and posted it on Red Alert Boards.

•The MEC Hotel and Transportation Committee met with members of WHQBQ and told them to remove us from the Westin Bonaventure immediately. Mr. Tolle's reply was he wanted to have United Security review the hotel for security measures. AFA's reply: it is unacceptable to keep flight attendants at a hotel where one of their flying partners was raped.

•AFA immediately disapproved the Westin Bonaventure and faxed a letter to WHQ Wednesday evening. Mr. Tolle was called at home and told the document would be waiting for him in the morning.

If you have further questions, contact your Local AFA Office or LEC Hotel Committee.

Remember, always document your concerns and complaints via TVLLOG.
