GoUnimatic Falls Down; Gets Back Up

Source: Other

Date: Dec 04, 2013 at 12:43 PM Pacific Time

I had no idea that so many people used www.gounimatic.com until my email and phone went haywire this morning.  Basically, gounimatic.com was not going to unimatic.

The problem has been resolved.  I had to get a tech support person involved (always makes for a good time) and the transcript is below.

Computers just fall down...then they get back up and walk again.  For no reason.

Happy Wednesday!

Christopher

P.S. Here's the Channel 9 broadcast:

11:54Artur S.: Hello, you've contacted Live Support! Please give me a minute to look through the question you asked.

11:56Christopher Lee: Hello, are you there?

11:57Artur S.: Yes, sure, please hold on, I am checking

11:57Christopher Lee: Cool...thanks.

11:59Artur S.: Possibly, the errored page has been cached by your browser. I suggest to clear your cache and try to access the web page. If the issue persists, please try switching browser to another one.

12:00Christopher Lee: It's not a caching issue. People in several cities around the US are reporting the same issue. I also Flushed DNS and tried from two different workstations, one of them an RDC into a server in Chicago. Same problem.

12:00Artur S.: Just a moment, please

12:01Artur S.: Can you follow this proxy link http://anonymouse.org/cgi-bin/anon-www.cgi/http://jumpseatnews.com/gounimatic/ ? On my side I can access the domain both from proxy server and via browser address bar

12:02Christopher Lee: Just a sec...

12:02Artur S.: Please take your time

12:02Christopher Lee: That link is pulling up this page: http://jumpseatnews.com/gounimatic/

12:02Christopher Lee: The URL I'm talking about is: www.gounimatic.com

12:03Artur S.: Yes, the domain gounimatic.com is forwarding tohttp://www.jumpseatnews.com/gounimatic Is this the correct destination?

12:04Christopher Lee: gounimatic.com should have two URL Redirect records in the DNS to http://www.jumpseatnews.com/gounimatic, that is correct. But many people are not arriving at that page. Rather, the browser just times out. This has happened to at least seven different people on 7 different IPs that I know about.

12:05Christopher Lee: Separate DNS servers as well -- both locally as well as probably with their ISP.

12:05Christopher Lee: Just a sec, i'm going to try and ping it from a command line via an RDC server.

12:05Artur S.: Sure, take your time

12:05Christopher Lee: Interesting..it's pinging back from a command prompt. WTF?? OK, let me check on a different system.

12:06Artur S.: Ok, sure

12:06Artur S.: On my side ping is also successful

12:08Christopher Lee: I'm must be losing my mind... OK. Just a sec. I'll test from a server in Europe

12:08Artur S.: Sure

12:11Christopher Lee: Same problem. OK, I'm going to change the record back to https://crew-access.ual.com/

12:11Christopher Lee: testing again...

12:11Artur S.: Take your time

12:12Christopher Lee: How long does it take your DNS to update when a URL is changed in the admin?

12:12Christopher Lee: I show it's still going here: http://jumpseatnews.com/gounimatic/

12:12Artur S.: It takes up to 30 minutes

12:13Christopher Lee: ok. i'll set a 301 redirect on http://jumpseatnews.com/gounimatic/

12:13Christopher Lee: Just checked...it's working from servers overseas...

12:14Christopher Lee: Still crapola on my side. Grrrrrr... OK, I'll flush DNS yet once more.

12:14Christopher Lee: just a sec.

12:15Artur S.: Of course, sure

12:15Christopher Lee: LOL. OK, it's back up. I have no idea why it was down. I'll see if some people I know can hit it from Chicago.

12:16Christopher Lee: Either way, it's redirect now correctly to where it is supposed to be.

12:17Christopher Lee: OK, I think we can close out this ticket. I don't know what happened. But I appreciate your help and patience.

12:17Artur S.: I am glad it works on your side now, we can confirm there are currently no issues with URL Redirect from our side

12:17Artur S.: It was a pleasure to help you!

12:17Christopher Lee: cool. thanks. Bye...

12:18Artur S.: Have a nice day, good bye.
