Talks Between UAL and AFA Stalled

Date: Feb 12, 2001

United Airlines management representatives and the AFA met together on Wednesday, February 7th to resume discussions on raising flight attendant pay.

Kerplunk!  The discussions broke down...again.

The DEAR-AFA tape reported that "United's negotiators only wanted to talk about a complete waiver of our scope clause."  Damn!  They want that operational merger so badly the drool drips from here to China.

What now?  According to the AFA MEC, no further talks are scheduled with the company.  AFA's elected officials will be holding a "special" meeting on Feb 25 to discuss the situation.  Keep your eyes and ears open.  This drama is far from over, unfortunately.

But remember this folks:  This wage proposal dispute should not be confused with our normal Wage Arbitration review that is set for this year.  The company had agreed to open our contract early because of the recent pay increases given to other employee groups.  Even though these recent talks have broken down, with no new talks scheduled, our Wage Arbitration review must proceed normally (whether UAL likes it or not) under the terms of our current contract dated December 3, 1997.
